Join us with Lan Airlines- hosted by  Rosann Connolly-George stepping back in time as we explore the intrigue of authentic Cuba after a short stopover in Santiago Chile. Acquaint yourself with the crumbling splendour of Old Havana. Gain insight into the history of Cuba’s most famous drink; Havana Club Rum and Cuban cigar rolling.

Enjoy a chauffeur-driven scenic tour in a 1950s classic American car. Experience small village life, a host of architectural influences , from Havana to Trinidad.
 

Embrace the warmth of the Cuban locals and take away some salsa moves as we move onto Lima Peru, a  magnificent city blending  Inca and Spanish cultures. Our Peruvian experience takes us into the sacred Valley where by train we travel to stay overnight in The Holy City of Machu Picchu. At your leisure revisit this fascinating holy citadel perhaps as the sun rises the following day offering views at its very best.
 

Spending time in Cuzco shopping the famous Pisac markets full of handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and replicas of pre-Hispanic pottery completes our South American experience.

Fri, 02Nov - Santiago (B)

This morning, you will proceed on a tour of Santiago. Tour the main avenues of the city’s civic center. The most important building is the La Moneda Palace, the current seat of the government formerly the home of Chilean presidents until 1958.

The excursion proceeds along the traditional Plaza de Armas (Main Square) surrounded by important buildings such as: the Cathedral of the 18th and the Central Post Office. The tour includes a visit at the Central Market, and continues by the Forestal Park going uphill the Santa Lucía Hill, site of the foundation of the city in 1541.

Today, you will be transferred to the Airport for your flight to Havana

Sun, 04Nov - Havana (B/L)           

Sundays are popular family days in Cuba with loads of local activities, This morning, you will get acquainted with Cuba's capital city by taking a guided walking tour through the crumbling splendour of the historic neighbourhood of Habana Vieja (Old Havana), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wars and revolution have done little to damage its heritage, making it the finest example of a Spanish colonial city anywhere in the Americas.

Stops on the tour include the impressive Museum of the Revolution, a tobacco house to see the cigar rolling techniques of the most famous cigars in the world, and the Havana Club Rum Museum for an insight into the history of Cuba’s most famous drink; as well as a chance  to sample its delights!

Lunch will be provided in an authentic Cuban restaurant.

Later, you’ll be collected in your chauffeur-driven, 1950s classic American car for a scenic two hour drive around the city during which you’ll see the major sites including the Malecon seafront drive, the elegant suburb of Miramar, and Revolution Square. The car will drop you back at your Hotel.

Mon 05 Nov - Havana (B)

Full day is at leisure to explore the city on your own or look at the optional day excursion to Vinales Valley

OPTIONAL: Drive to Pinar del Rio city which is located in the western part of the country where we can find the best tobbaco plantation in the world, in this city we will visit a Cigar Factory ( where we will see all the tobacco production process. Continuation to Viñales Valley, once there, we will stop at the lookout point of “Los Jasmines” to admire the unique and picturesque landscape of the valley as its “Mogotes,” rocky summit formations capriciously placed by the nature.

The tour continues by bus to “La Cueva del Indio” where we will have an undeniably exciting experience to sail in traditional boats along an underground river that passes through the interior of some of the Haystack Hillock Mountains. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Mural of the Prehistory. Return to Havana.

Tue, 06 Nov - Havana – Cienfuegos - Trinidad (B/L)

Today, we leave our Hotel and drive to Trinidad via Cienfuegos one of the country’s major industrial centres.  In Cienfuegos, enjoy the seaside vibe with a walking tour through spruced-up colonial streets, past the Palacio deValle, an architectural jewel with influences of Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Mudejar architecture – like something out of Arabian Nights.

The beauty of its historic centre has earned Cienfuegos the name “pearl of the south”. Visit the Parque Jose Marti, the main square lined with buildings representing the finest examples of the city’s architecture dating from 19th and 20th centuries, the Tomas Terry theatre, the Palacio Ferrer and the Palacio de Valle, remarkable building built between 1912 and 1917.

On to UNESCO listed Trinidad, a perfectly preserved Spanish colonial settlement. Enjoy a walking tour along the cobbled streets of the town and in the evening visit the famous Casa de la Musica, popular with the locals for its live salsa band and delicious mojitos sipped under the warm Carribean night sky.

Wed 07 Nov - Trinidad (B/L/D)

Today we learn how to make Cuban specialties in a cooking class, followed by a salsa lesson.

Afterwards we visit an old sugar plantation in the picturesque Valle de los Ingenios, about 10km outside of Trinidad.

The day ends with a barbeque dinner at the beach, accompanied by live music.  

Thu, 08 Nov - Trinidad – Santa Clara – Havana (B)

After a leisurely breakfast and time in the morning to complete your Trinidad experience perhaps some shopping, we return to Havana via  Santa Clara, where history was made over 50 years ago.

It was here, that Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara and a band of soldiers derailed a train carrying 350 heavily armed government troops. Using a borrowed bulldozer and some homemade Molotov cocktails, this action sealed the fate of the Batista dictatorship. We’ll see the statue of Che guarding an excellent museum and mausoleum beneath it.

Expected time into Havana will be around 4PM

This morning, you will be taken for a half day tour visiting the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, conqueror of Peru, Government Palace, City Hall, Cathedral including the 17th century San Francisco Monastery and House of 'El Oidor'.

Continuing our tour, we will see other Colonial architectural jewels, such as Torre Tagle Palace, Osambela House, finishing with a visit to Larco Herrera, Archaeological or Gold Museum with its extraordinary collection of gold artefacts.

Afternoon is at leisure to explore the city on your own.

Sun, 11Nov - Lima – Cuzco (B)

A leisurely start to the day  until this afternoon, when you will be collected from your Hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight to Cuzco.

Your morning tour shows you the city that was known by the Incas as the Navel of the World,  

This magnificent city, a blend of Inca and Spanish Cultures, visiting the Korikancha or Temple of the Sun and the Cathedral, continuing on to the nearby ruins of Tambomachay (Inca fountains), Puca-Pucara (the Red Fortress), Kenko (sacred site) and finally Sacsahuaman Fortress.

Wed  14Nov - Cuzco – Sacred Valley (B/L)

You will visit Pisac, a picturesque town located northeast of Cusco. Its colorful fairs also take place every day. Here merchants offer for sale all sorts of handicrafts, the most important of which are the textiles and ceramic goods such as ceremonial goblets called "Q'eros", plates, ashtrays, necklace and replicas of pre-Hispanic pottery.

In the afternoon you will visit the remarkable fortress of Ollantaytambo, built by the Incas.

A very steep stone staircase leads into the fortress. Across an esplanade there is a temple with 10 niches, and beside it a block of partially unworked stones. Beyond another esplanade, six huge rectangular monoliths (estimated weight: 50 tons) form the Temple of the Sun. Vestiges of rooms are seen on top, and on the other side of the hill a four storey building, a military school or prison.

Thu, 15Nov - Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu (B/L/D)

Early pick up and transfer to the railway station to board the tourist train that goes through the Urubamba Valley or Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the fabulous mountaintop ruins of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was never discovered by the Spaniards. For centuries it was buried in the jungle until Hiram Bingham found it in 1911.

The Holy City of Machu Picchu was built in stone among the flanks of two hills belonging to the eastern mountain range of the Andes, descending into the Amazonian upper sylvan. There is no doubt that Machu Picchu represents an extraordinary example of architecture and engineering.

Upon arrival to the station, the buses wait to transfer you to the top of the ruins (30 minutes). A guided tour of the ruins gives you some idea of what the city must have looked like.

Suggestion:  Pack an overnight bag for Machu Picchu due to the limited space on the trains for big luggage. The hotel will store your other luggage.

Fri, 16Nov -  Machu Pichhu – Cuzco (B)

This morning, you could take another trip to Machu Picchu citadel on your own

( supplement cost applies) as you have free time till train to Cuzco leaves in the afternoon. You can spend time up in Machu Pichhi or stroll through the street markets, shops and restaurants in the village of Aguas Calientes.

In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Cusco.
