American Samoa World War II Trails & Relics Tour

Hiking along the heritage trail takes us past multiple World War II installations that helped protect American Samoa from a Japanese invasion. They symbolize American Samoas importance as a route from the United States to Australia and New Zealand. At Blunts Point you will see an intact six- foot naval gun, relics and bunkers. Along the last section of the trail there are quite a few steep ladders or steps with ropes that take you to the end of the trail where an aerial tramway used to transport visitors from Solo Hill to the summit of Mount Alava just across the Pago Pago Harbor. This was the only such cable car in the South Pacific and was originally used to carry TV transmission equipment to the mountaintop. This guided tour takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is a must do for those with an interest in WWII history.
